Green and Clean - Building & Business

The Marin Builders Association recognizes our responsibility to our community and our environment.

Green building is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction.

There are many resources for Green building Nationally, Statewide and Locally:

US Green Building Council
US Environmental Protection Agency
Green California
CALGreen Building Code
Marin County Green Building Program

Green business is the practice of operating in the most efficient and sustainable manner. Green businesses take into account the economic, environmental and social factors. There are many benefits to incorporating green practices into your business. The County of Marin offers a Green Business certification program. Green Businesses must meet higher standards of conservation in energy, water, waste reduction and pollution prevention.

To help our members be more efficient the Marin Builders Association offers an "Online Plan Room" so our members can access construction projects to view and estimate from wherever they have computer and internet access. The Marin Builders Association also offers a Tool Lending Library to help our contractors have the tools they need to complete energy efficiency testing and projects. The Marin Builders Association is a certified California, Bay Area and Marin County Green Business and encourages our members to become green certified if possible.

Contractors Have the Power to Keep the Community Clean and Safe
-Join the Marin Builders Association and San Rafael Clean program

Trucks with loose trash and materials in them cause litter. Worse, those who don’t secure their loads adequately can cause accidents. Contractors associated with the Marin Builders Association have strong values and a commitment to the community. Subsequently, our care for the place where we live and work means we take the extra step to keep it safe and clean. Tarps can be purchased at almost any hardware or materials store. We use those tarps to cover our loads, and keep Marin clean – and we secure our loads. Learn more about the law and why it is important to remind your contractors and landscape crews to cover their loads.

The Marin Builders Association is a proud partner with the San Rafael Clean Coalition. The San Rafael Coalition offers free vehicle trash bags for Marin Builders Association members. Tarps can be picked up for under $10 at any local hardware store. It isn't hard to do your part to keep Marin clean and safe.
